we have ran ih from 81 till now, 1460, 1480,1680 is there a right position for the bars on the back grates? now they are on the outside in the middle of the big slots. i could see them robbing power on the inside. we harvest wheat barley and canola any ideas.
it interesting that this combine design has always been limited by horsepower, not threshing or seperating capicty.
no wonder jd copied it in their last incarnation
we used to push 42 ft of 45 bushel wheat swath thru 1460s , if it was tough, 1 to 1.2 mph. dry 1.8 -2. then 1480s and 1680s a step above, a full mile an hour faster.but still dead horses, keep pushing and rotor speed drops off. All ih has done is give it more ponies. those original engineers desereve a pat on the back.a design has lasted 25 years, way to go guys.as for the bean counters ,trying to maximise part sales by being cheap on tin, your the only bad marks on the thing.
made in the USA used to mean quality,so get off your high horse and work for the people that keep you employed.
i heard a comment from a guy the other day "case ih is flying in ever smaller circles until they fly up their own butt.
