20" is not a problem. The row units slide back and forth like they were on a tool bar. It should carry 9 units without any trouble. I built an 8x22 last year and we used about all of the available space so I don't know if 9 rows will fit without some modification. You will need to lengthen the drive shafts or get some from a wider header and shorten them. I used the original side tinwork and put JD 20" polytin on the other rows and was really happy with the header.
