We took an R-52 in on trade that had been sold by another dealer which had similar bunching problems. We found in this instance the solution was 3 part.
(1) The header auger had not been modified for the R-52. If it is not modified after delivery then it will tend to rope the crop into the feeder instead of feeding like a mat. This greatly reduces capacity and increases the tendancy to bunch.
(2) The concave was not level. It was out by 3/4"
(3) The concave was set open at the front and pinched to the back which guarantees a reduction in capacity and frequent plugging.
After our mechanic was done with this machine we almost doubled it's production in wheat and it easily chased a 20 ft head at 5 mph in soys even when they were tough.
Hope this helps.
