Rule of thumb has allways been less than 1% of fuel used. Make sure you open vent on dipstick tube when checking and stick dry stick in for awhile prior to pulling and reading. Higher marks on dipstick are for checking after prolonged engine off (dots or lines on stick). Lower marks for checking when engine just shut down. I wouldn't add unless on add mark. Sometimes keeping on full will just eat it down to a certain point every day. Might try another brand of oil if what you are using can't take the heat. Good luck
