I bought an L3 this spring (serial 28,5xx). It has the standard rasp bars and
they need to be turned. I do only corn (20-28%) and soybeans, so I also need
a set of filler bars, unless I change to a different type of cylinder.
How much advantage is there to using the wide-spaced (3/4"?) rasp bars? All
I have ever used are the standard ones. How about the enclosed "hi-inertia"
cylinders? Are there any used ones from salvage machines for sale?
What I'm wondering is, if I'm going to mess with the cylinder bars, should I
spend some money and get something different or just wear out the other
side of the stock rasp bars?
Another item needing attention is the straw chopper. The pan under the
rotor has large chunk missing, the stationary knives are missing and the
fan/spreader is pretty cracked and dented. Does anyone have a complete one
or a good place to have them rebuilt? Local parts yard has a complete one
from an L for $850. Are they interchangeable among all L's or is there a serial
# break?
I'm in far NE Iowa, near Postville if anyone has these items.
Thanks much!
