Heater hoses on a Duetz?

I just put a new engine in my R52. And I don't want anything to happen to this one. I have heard of a couple engines blowing up from a hole in the heat hose and loosing engine oil. I was thinking about putting cut offs in the oil lines. Is that worth doing? Or is it just a waste of time?
