patching header floor

My 1859 soybean head is developing rust holes in the floor, and I'm looking for the best way to fix the problem.

I would appreciate readers' experiences in:

1. patching methods (body filler, fiberglass, brazing in patches, pop-riveting patches, MIG welding patches)

2. doubling up the floor (with galvanized metal, stainless steel, or even high density Polyethelene).
