Sounds to me that your rolls are too close at the front. I do not have a book in front of me but 3 5/8" to 3 3/4" centerline is the correct distance for large diameter heavy stalks. If the square part just in front of the flutes is about to touch. Just imagine how it will effectly pinch it off when running 900rpm.
