We are disappointed with the purchase of an 8780 because of its performance in hard red wheat. Although this is the first crop we have tried it in, we may not be keeping it because of problems trying to thresh the wheat - lots of untreshed heads in the grain tank.
Basic setup is as follows:
- using small wire concaves with all wires installed
- running three blanks on first three concaves
- Concave has been indexed and clearance is about 1/8 inch
- Maximum rotor speed used and lower sieve closed down
We have been custom harvesting with massey conventional combines for over 50 years and have always been impressed with them. We want to continue to use massey equipment but need help to make this one perform properly. The dealer has not had any experience with this combine and so any suggestion on adjustments or add-ons that could improve the performance in any difficult to thresh crops would be appreciated. Straw quality is a concern.
