Am still looking for the right combine (didn't buy the TR-86), and have been reading these boards thoroughly. I'm intrigued by the comments regarding the quietness of the New Holland board. What are the theories as to why? Let me list a few observations:
-the passion of the Gleanerites shines through like no other (that's why I bought our present F2, which for a 30 year old machine, is quite impressive - light years ahead of the competition of the era).
-John Deere has, hands down, the best marketing department of all the brands, and has had for quite some time.
-Rotary threshing appears to be the most efficient, versatile, and durable system, with simple, easy to work on machines.
-the Gleaner name, from all indications, is headed for oblivion (huge mistake); to be absorbed by the MF and Challenger brands.
-twin rotors (smaller diameter than single rotor) must turn at faster rpms to get the same threshing speeds, which theoretically leads to more mantainence and faster wear.
Now, here are some questions for all of you:
Where does that leave NH twin rotors in the future? And what are the reasons more aren't, and haven't been, sold? Could the NH board be quieter not only because fewer have been sold, but also because owners have fewer problems than other brands? Why do so many NH owners run JD heads? Why do there seem to be so many used NH TRs for sale, given how few were sold, or are the proportions the same?
I'm looking forward to everyone's thoughts. TIA.
